As you have surely heard by now, Congressman John Boehner, Republican House Minority Leader (R-Ohio) is now somewhat notorious for his recent statement, made during his weekly press meeting last Thursday that he doesn’t know anyone who supports a public option with regard to the health care reform negotiations.  Representative Boehner told the press, “”I’m still trying to find the first American to talk to who’s in favor of the public option, other than a member of  Congress or the administration.”

Rather than wonder about how this could possibly be, we thought we’d just post the Boehner contact form here so that you could add yourself to the petition, and let him know that you are an American who is in favor of a public option for health care.

Still, though this is a distressing piece of news, the issue is far from dead, and in fact, some say that when Senator Charles Schumer (D) of New York was only defeated 13 to 10 when he attempted to include a public option in the bill to the Senate Finance panel, it showed how close the differing arguments are in coming to a compromise.

Another vote comes in front of House and Senate leaders about thirty days from now when they will work on a compromise bill.

Meanwhile, two groups promoting change, Democracy for America and The Progressive Change Campaign Committee are seeking support for the public option by running a hard-hitting ad campaign in the home states of Max Baucus and Olympia Snowe, criticizing them for their lack of support in this area. We believe that families and individuals can make a difference by showing that we need HEALTH CARE REFORM NOW in our country, and that it cannot wait any longer.

We happen to be just one family out of millions who has been suffering due to the terrible state of our current US health care system. It has been frustrating that we can not better our own insurance situation, and even more frustrating that there has been little we could do to effect any positive change in the system itself.

But we got an idea and got inspired. What if we COULD actually make a difference by creating a symbol that shows our support for Health Care Reform?  What if we could also make it available so that others could freely show their support too?  And what if we donated 1/2 of profits from this project to health care reform itself?

We have developed a health care reform flag bumper sticker and auto magnet with the slogan Health Care Reform Now to serve this purpose.

It was important to us that the symbol for support of Health Care Reform incorporated the American Flag.  What could be more American than improving the current system, and making health care affordable and better for everyone who lives in and loves the United States of America?

The H is the same style H that appears on Hospital information signs.  We chose the H to stand for Health Care Reform.

Here is our story:

Both my husband and I lost our corporate jobs within the past fifteen years due to budget cutbacks and company restructures.  With the loss of our jobs, we also lost the group plan rates that we got for health care through our companies.

We each started our own small businesses and have been making it work, but health care costs have been one of our biggest struggles, and they continue to rise.

With no large group to be a part of, our rates are practically unreachable, and because of a pre-existing conditions we have been advised not to change companies or we could lose our possibility of qualifying for new insurance plans all together.  We pay exorbitant prices, growing dangerously close to what we pay for our home mortgage payment each month. In return, we have plans with high deductibles and scant coverage, and lots of qualifiers we have to meet, We also get little help with the prescription drugs our family needs.

Because insurance companies have requirements regarding the physicians and facilities we go to for care, we’ve made mistakes by thinking a doctor’s office or hospital or clinic would be covered, only to find out afterward that the information given to us was wrong, and we were responsible for the bill.  That is not fair, people, especially when things are checked out beforehand.

Our current health care system is broken, and we are tired of staying silent.
