We feel change is crucial.

We are the Krout family- there’s just the three of us, but because we are small business owners and do not have the option of buying into a more-affordable group plan, our monthly costs are crippling us, and we know that many others are in situations as difficult or much worse.

When you add doctor visit co-pays and prescriptions to the cost of  monthly insurance premiums, health care costs are often nearly as much as a mortgage payment- at least it is that way for us. We know that something has to change.

We are not part of any government-funded group and we don’t have any affiliations with any lobbying group.  We just wanted to do something to show that we support change when it comes to health care in our country.

We thought the best way we could make a difference was two-fold:

1. Create a symbol for the support of Health Care Reform that we could make available to others.
2. Donate a good portion of our profits from our project to the reform itself. We decided on donating 50% of our profits.

   We’re still working out the right group related to reform to give it to, but it will be one of the main broad-based groups that support Health Care Reform. As soon as we’ve chosen the group, we will announce it here on the blog, but we did not want to hold this project up while we decide. Because status is rapidly changing, we can continue to donate to reform efforts even after a reform package with a public option is approved, because there will always be a way to help. We will continue to donate as long as we keep selling the Health Care Reform Flag products.

We strongly feel that the US Health Care System truly needs to change.  It isn’t right that people just like us have to keep taking money from retirement funds just to stay afloat now.  It isn’t right that some people decide not to even carry health insurance because they simply cannot afford it, and when something happens and they do need care, it either destroys them financially or other taxpayers have to contribute or pick up the tab.  It isn’t right when medical care is refused because of pre-existing conditions or quality care is unavailable for so many. Something about all of this is very wrong.

We wanted to show our recognition that things need to change, and our way isn’t to scream and yell or get in anyone’s face about it.  We simply want to raise awareness and have a way to show that we support a needed change.

We don’t claim to have the answers about how to fix this mess that the health care system is today, but we do know that it is a mess and needs to transform into something better.
